My wife and I just bought our first house. I am so excited My vette is going to have it's own garage. Anyone have any cool pictures of there garages. I'm looking for Ideas. Thanks
There's a guy locally selling side-by-side garage units. 10' roll-up doors, 20' ceilings w/2 bathrooms and central A/C. 2000 s/f. At $110k, it's cheaper than buying a house with a garage...AND no neighbors to pizz-off if you decide to tune at midnight on a Sunday.
I am revamping mine right now (third time); should have pics in a a couple of weeks. As one of the others stated, I beleive a furnace is key. I have a 66,000 BTU unit that take my garage up to 65 in a Chicago winter. I can work out there all year long. Definitely paint or seal the floor, otherwise you will have dust continually leaching out. I would reccomend a two part epoxy. I used to use Kyanize floor stain, which was cheap and held up awesome, but Kyanize doesn't seem to make this product anymore. I have tried the single part epoxies, but they only hold up fair (hot tire lift). This summer I am moving to the real deal; two part epoxy. Addtionally my garage has four speaker stereo and cable TV (you would be surprised how much sports you can watch while working). I also have hot and cold running water and air compressor lines throughout. One side is dedicated to Vette collectables; the other to awards; the top perimiter is license plates from all 50 states. It kind of looks like someones 70s basement which is the look I wanted. Kind of cool but a little campy. I am told that my garage is well known in our neighborhood and I have people stop just to look. We use it for parties for the keg and as a smokers room. I have had people at parties ask what room in the house it was and they are surprised to hear it's the garage. One guy commented that "he uses his garage to protect his cars". I said so do I, and he didn't believe me. The way I see it, it probably one of the most versitle, most used rooms in our house. I think most people far underutilize the value of that square footage. I love to spend hours in the garage fiddling with anything. I should be wrapping up this phase by next weekend, so if the thread is still here I will post a few pics.
