Can anybody recommend a good collector car insurance company?
I tried Haggerty but they wouldn't insure me. Apparently they go back 5 years on your record and I have 3 speeding tickets within that time. The state of Michigan only goes back 2 years for your record and Progressive only goes back 3 years. I haven't received a ticket in 2.5 years. The real kicker is that I drive slow in my vette and all my speeding tickers were some how work related driving my 6 cylinder F-150. Go figure.
I have Condon and Skelley, not sure how far they go back on wrecks and tickets. I did find out the other day that they do NOT have an attendence policy. That means that if your car gets stolen while at the grocery store on your ocassional "pleasure drive" that they will pay. This has been an open topic lately.
Even if you put everything in your wife's name it shouldn't have mattered. They ask how many licesed drivers live in your household. Not who will be driving the car. Did you lie to them? If you did then they can probably get out of paying any claims you might have.
AON Colecter Car Insurance, Don`t kow there number but they do have a website. No mile restriction. I have my 71 valued at $15.000, it costs about $107.00 a year.
I personally feal the ENTIRE insurance industry is a scam.
Example: You have an isurance company for many years and something should happen and you make a claim. They drop you in a heartbeat.
Homeowners Insurance: Hurricane Andrew in Miami, there were some people with 20, 30, 40 year old houses and a hurricane comes along and the insurance companies claim bankruptcy. I know you can't do this but if you were to put the money you paid the insurance companies for those 20, 30, 40 years in a louzy savings account, you could have bought a new home outright.
The only thing an isurance company is good for is if THE OTHER GUY has it and he has an accident then sue there(insurance co.) BUTTS and get some money back.
lotahp,
I have to disagree with you. The policy seen below provides me with:
-$1M liability/personal injuries
-$100 deductible collision
-$100 deductible fire/theft/vandalism
-health/injury/medical benefits
-"agreed value" in case of total loss through accident or unrecovered theft
The cost is $300US per year with no restrictions. That to me is a bargain. I am not going to lecture but I will say if you hit and disable a 30-year-old medical doctor with >30 years of earning potential in front of him/her you have a "problem."
This company does not issue policies in the USA but the details of coverage may be of interest. http://www.lant-ins.ca/
Your lottery, I just hope you don't hit me. I'd hate to see a fellow CF member have a bad day while on a cruise in the summer time. If you can afford the hobby you shouldn't put yourself or other people at risk. Insurance companies have no sympathy.
Make sure you check that your "Collector Car" insurance covers your
vehicle when your NOT in it, as in theft......I've heard stories
theft may cover only from your house...... I just go with regular car ins. but call it recreation vehicle. it is more than 1 clams but I rest easy when out and about town.

I also have Haggerty Insurance, along with a house full of drivers with tickets. When they asked about the other drivers I told them about them. If I understand correctly, they will only pay in an acedent if a listed driver is driving (my wife and I are the only ones listed) :hat
