I replaced my Holly with an Edelbrock 4106 on my '75 and now I need to "tweak" it some. It really runs great but when I stomp on it I notice there is definately a difference in the shift duration compared to the Holly. The Edlebrock takes longer to shift than what the Holly did. Is there a link somewhere with documentation on tuning/adjusting the carb for peak performance? The reason I switched to the Edelbrock was I could not get the Holly to stop "perculating" the fuel in the bowls after I shut it down. Even with the heat shield I still had problems. I am running a rebuilt 350 .030 over with a comp xe 268 cam and a TH400 transmission.
Ummmm........can't remember.....did the 75 have a detent cable??.....or was it still the detent switch under the dash.
I remember it being a switch, don't know where the switch is though. There was an orange wire coming off my th400 and I think everyone was saying that's the kickdown solenoid wire.
:iagree: with Paul
The TH400 had a vacuum line from the intake to the modulator valve and a orange wire that went to the kick-down solenoid (down shifting) activated by a switch on the accelerator pedal when fully depressed. Most up-shift problems are caused by a vacuum leak so check for that.
Thanks everyone. I don't know why I didn't think about the switch. It is located under the gas peddle. I think I recall that to reset it I need to press the accelerator all the way to the floor to (engine off :D ). I will also look to see if there is a vacuum leak to see if that may be the problem.
