Is it safe to sandblast the front hubs? I want to clean off all the rust and scale. The bearing races are removed and as long as care is taken to avoid blasting the bores, I think it would be ok.
Turbo,
Glad to hear I'm not the only one willing to put time and effort into restoring parts that are never seen. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but I just spent the last 8 weeks restoring my front and rear ends, new rotors, bearings, brake lines, frame paint, etc. Spent a considerable amount of time on the hubs and rotors.... Looks great now, but I kind of feel like the mom who tells there kids to wear clean underwear and socks "just in case you get into an accident and ...."
I am redoing the whole front end on my 69 and I blasted all the parts, just make sure you clean all grease and grime before you blast. Then I re-wash the parts in strong soapy water, blow it all dry with your air gun. Then I primed and painted .... done job!
Hey I know what you mean but your wife should know the feeling, ask her why she cleans parts of the house you never see???? What will she say??? Yes, she'll say...I will nknow it's not clean and that's why I clean it bla bla bla bla ...oprah says...bla bla bla...dr. phil.....bla bla :) :D
It's the exact same thing with us guys but in a more Tim Allen way, you'll know there's rust and grime back there and it just bugs us :)
Kenko74 - looks great! I recently tore down my entire front end as well, but only cleaned it up to look original (wire brushes, bench grinder with wire wheel, etc. - no paint). It looks great, but I have to agree - nobody understands it, sees it, or appreciates it except us (those who did the work).
