Pulled off the metal spring and put on a VBP composite 330lb spring. The ride height is perfect at 28.5 all the way around with lots of room to adjust the rear up or down. I can't believe the difference in the ride quality, this spring is awesome! This is one of the best mods I have made to the car. I don't know how well this spring works on other years but it is a great match for an 80.

Re: New Composite Spring - Success! (Dk Met Grn 80 L82)
 Yes I was very happy with my VBP spring. :iagree: What i really like is fiberglass has no memory and no need to jack up rear end for long term storage.
Re: New Composite Spring - Success! (Dk Met Grn 80 L82)
was it the dual mount spring? or the stock replacement? cause the people running the dual mount havent been having the problems....i really want the dual mount and if thats what u have how hard are the adjustments to make?
This is very encouraging for me :yesnod: Hope my 360lb works as well for me!
A few more questions for you: Have you done anything to lighten your rear end? Does it have the spare tire assembly? This wouldn't make as much difference for you, with the space-saver tire, and I assume your car is already over-all lighter than mine.
Re: New Composite Spring - Success! (RUXperienced)
I have the KYB high pressure gas-a-just. These are not recommended for use with the composite spring. I figured I would make one change at a time so I could see what worked. It should get even better with the right shocks. They recommend the bilstein sport shocks with this spring.
This spring is not the dual mount.
The rear spare and carrier are currently out of the car, I'm getting ready to repaint the cover and hardware, so the rear is currently even lighter.

 I have 460# springs in front 330# composite mono spring in the rear and 4 Bilsteins, ride height after putting them on was perfect and it rides like a dream. No more bouncy 70 Olds 98 feeling :lolg:  :seeya
Re: New Composite Spring - Success! (Dk Met Grn 80 L82)
Glad to hear your good news.
I'm one of the list of "others" that haven't had good luck with the mono springs (see multi-page lenghty post started by KidVette).
Just wondering if what bolt length you're using?
Got any pics?
Thanks!

I put a TRW 330lb spring on my 79 a few years ago and it has to date been the best thing I ever did. The ride is totally different, smooth and silent and those annoying jolts from minor road inperfections gone ! :yesnod:
Re: New Composite Spring - Success! (johnnybrewmeister)
This spring is the VBP composite spring. The bolt length they supply is around 8". I haven't measured how far up it is threaded yet, but my guess by looking at it is that the stock bolts may even work. I was planning on waiting one month to let everything settle in then make my final adjustment. I don't have a digital camera, but if I borrow one from someone at work, I'll post some photos.
