Rear main seal/ pan gasket, day 2 of 3
Well today I figured I would wrap up yesterday's work. First I staggered the rear seal and applied sealant on the rear cap as someone had suggested.
The paint on the pan was dry and the 1-piece gasket with plastic screw in stays made easy work of supporting the gasket/ pan while I inserted and torqued down the pan, the gasket even comes with new bolts and washers.
The car would have been driven away until I decided to apply too much torque while trying to put back on the grounds to the starter solenoid
Note to self...porcelin items are not load bearing items thus do not apply 125 ft. lb to same
So I got a new relay
And after this drys and the A-arms are dry.
Will install the starter, add oil and finally be able to cruise off into the sunset.

Hey now u can see how that contactor ring inside the solenoid works. Nice to know what to clean when the solenoid just clicks but doesn't turn the motor. Now u the expert .
Well that coat of sealer on the cap looks a little thick but if torqued right away should be okay. I'm betting you'll be happy for applying sealer between the metal surfaces. Now that rubber rear seal is new to me as I used the old rope stuff. I can also see an oily flywheel (probably getting into the clutch too) and that you were over-do for a new rear seal.
U also have headers and that shark must really be fun to drive as is. I remember ur super tuning and 3.70 gears too. If u ever get some 1/4 mi times please post. :D
Good work and good night. :seeya

Geez, man, you're really getting after it. Typical Navy, though--if it doesn't move, paint it.
But at least the Navy taught you a useful skill. There's not too much call around here for guys who can rake straight lines in dirt.
Lookin' good...

Cali - I did the same job and used the Felpro 1 piece(best on the market I believe). I used Hylomar on the rear seal block mating surfaces and just a light coating. I didnt stagger the seal but made sure the ends were very dry when assembling. Haven't had a leak yet in 2 years since the job.
Cardo0- when ever I would go to LA on business, I would go to the San Clemente pier to have a few cold ones while watching the sun go down and the surfers below the pier. Great place.

Got the new starter to put in, add oil and drop in the *" long rear spring bolts and I'm ready for the road.

And ya know I take the pier and sunsets for granted now. More trobled with getting my shark back on the road after a long breakdown.
