I need to order a cam for my 350 project. The motor is a 350 with flat top pistons, 180 cc AFR heads and edelbrock performer intake. I don't spend a lot of time above 5000 rpm. I previously had a XE 262 which I was happy with but upon tear down discovered two of the lobes were trash. AFR said they had good experience with the Comp magnum 270 equal pattern cam. The car is a 75 with 4 speed, 3.36 rears and generally a sunny day driver but I still take it on long trips. Is the 270 to much cam for this application. Is an equal pattern cam the way to go with the AFR heads?
 You and a few others are starting to worry me about the XE262. It seems a lot of people have had bad luck with them. I installed one about 2K miles ago. Are there any symptoms I should be looking for? So far, I've not witnessed any problems and don't really want to tear the engine back down.
Geez, I just installed a XE262 cam with AFR 180 heads and will be installing the engine back in the vette soon. I have not heard any problems with that cam  have I missed something? That cam with the AFR heads produces great HP and Torque under 5000 rpms and should be a great combo for the street and occasional drag strip...

I think you'd be OK w/ the 270 but I haven't checked the stats on it recently, nor do I know what your compression ratio will be. I'm waiting on a set of AFR 195s for my Z28 & in talking w/ AFR they do prefer equal pattern cams for their heads.
In the old days split pattern cams were the way to go because exhaust flow on older heads wasn't as good relative to intake flow. AFR's design takes care of that imbalance w/ better exhaust flow, hence their recommendation for equal pattern cams. I may have to play w/ rocker ratios to get the most out of my new AFRs.
You guys are starting to spook me with these wiped lobes on the XE262. Just finished installing 1.6 rockers on mine but haven't ran her yet. I guess time will tell.
