Could someone tell me what would be a realistic cost to install sidepipes? I'm currently shopping around for pipes and am putting together a total cost for the conversion (pipes & install). I plan to hve a regular muffler shop like a Meineke do the install.
These are the prices for the pipes alone. The first two will need connector
pipes formed to go from manifolds to pipes. These pipes with complete
installation shouldn't be more than $200.
The Hooker header/pipes are all install, which you could likely do yourself, but
it may require lifting the car fairly high. Again - install should be over $100,
but I can't see paying over $200 to install these.
Check to see if Texas has collectors plates.............Ohio does. I have them for the 79 with Hookers, and the 2000 FRC....... Both really get driven less than 2000 miles per year. You just need another regular daily driver to obtain this type of plate. :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
:nonod: Car's gotta be at least 25 years old to get "antique" plates. But in general, all cars over 25 years are basically exempt from emissions testing in Texas. So an '82 has 3 years to wait...until then it needs to be 100% stock.

Maybe he's on the 3-year plan to get the pipes & install them ! :jester
About 1100.00 for my Hooker Sidepipes. Install was easy, do it yourself and save some money on install. See my sig for what the Hooker chromes look like on an 82
And don't bother with the hooker insert mufflers, they are way too restrictive. Do yourself a favor and order the JCL Spiral Turbo Baffles, they sound great and perform too
My hooker were/are a pain in as* to install, much fitting needed. If I had to pay someone to do the install it would over $1k easy.
I think, however, a small block is easier.

Re: Sidepipes install cost (70vert)
The weekend warrior can do it. I receive much enjoyment letting those know, whom have questions, that I did it in a weekend. Total cost doing it myself was about $1250.00 no labor cost needed. I wouldn't trust a Midas type muffler shop.
Here is a picture showing how high I need to get the front of the car off the ground to slip the headers in.
Here is a picture showing how I lined up the baffles with respect to the sidepipes. I recommend baffles.
Hooker side pipes are cool as h@ll, but they will burn the putootie out of you, so make sure that you really want those babies. I have side pipes with the fiberglass covers. They get hot, but nothing like the Hookers.
To answer your question, get your Eklers out and look up the cost on the pipes. The original covers are probably around 2500 bucks. I actually have a pair in my attic that need a lot of attention that I paid 100 for. They are about the only thing that I got a good deal for.
Hookers are the way to go. It might take your wife a time or two to get use to steping away from the pipes but she learn quick, it hurts to much getting burnt.
