The bubba that owned my 76 before me ran into a piece of flat iron with the front fender. In looks like someone hit it with an axe. Instead of fixing it, he painted right over it with his crappy paint job.
Since the paint is into the fibers of the fiberglass around the tear, what is my best approach for repairing it? Should I just replace the fender, or can I fiberglass it in? I'm a little afraid of not getting the line smooth around the fender well opening if I fiberglass it in.
I would just grind out the painted fibers and glass over the damage. If the area is a large enough hole, back it up with cardboard covered with waxed paper. Much less hassle than replacing the whole fender.
Yes, glass it in. It will be a ton less work than replacing the fender. With some patience and the right sanding blocks you can get it straight. Craig :seeya
