Has anyone put a vortech supercharger on their c3, or heard of this being done? I would like to install it becuase it is fairly cheap ($2400) and would create very impressive figures, unfortuanely i am unsure if it will fit under the hood. I have a 69 corvette with a 350. There is about 6 inches of clearance from the top of the intake to the top of the factory sb hood. It seems that a L88 hood would have the required height to clear the carb enclosure, but i am unsure of the supercharger height, and if it would hit the hood. There are a few links below. One is for hotrod, which installed this system on a 383, there are several pictures of it also. The other 2 links contain the actual kit and the dimensions for the carb enclosure. Your opinions and knowledge is highly appreciated. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/79738/ - hotrod http://www.capa.com.au/kits_vortech.htm - vortech kit, bottom of page http://www.capa.com.au/vortech_performance_carby_02.htm - carb enclosure dimensions
Re: vortech supercharger on 69 vette? (lostpatrolman)
I'm trying to determine if I'm going to have enough room under the stock hood on my '75. I'm installing 1) a Holley StealthRam (few reports of it working) and 2) an ATI Procharger P-1SC, which, BTW, you might want to look at as you can get the complete kit with carb hat and a/c p/s brackets for $2150 or so. The P-1SC is self-contained too so you don't have to plumb for oil. Heard nothing but good things about them.
I wonder if you can cut some of the 'guts' out from under the stock smallblock hood to give more room.
The only part of the car my wife really didn't want me to touch is the stock hood profile. Otherwise I'd put on a hi-rise.
If you didn't have A/C on the car you could mount the unit on the front of the engine. Given that you are running a postive pressure intake a lower profile intake can be used. Something like a torker II would give you more hood clearance.

You do not need to enclose the carb for a blow through system. The carb can be modified without too much problem to accept pressure. All you need is I believe it is called a Hat but not sure. It just replaces your existing air cleaner with an elbow that is held on with the stock wing nut. It doesn't require any more clearance.
Mounting the compressor is another story bu it can be mounted on the passengers side with a little fabricating.

Re: vortech supercharger on 69 vette? (lostpatrolman)
I believe the main problem you will have is clearence for the supercharger itself, it will probably stickup to high and hit the hood. Some custom fabbing might be need to lower it below the hood line.

could someone give me a link for the ATI Procharger P-1SC with the carb hat? i cant seem to find it.
I don't think it's on their site. It is in their catalogs though, but you have to get that in the mail.
Talk to Dennis at Fonse. He quoted my setup, I just haven't purchased yet. He was even willing to swap in/out parts to make it work for me. He's their EFI expert, but they deal in everything.

Saw a Vortech on a '65 fuelie that looked like a stock set-up except that the brackets were machined out of aluminum instead of stamped steel. Unit was mounted on drivers side and fed air directly to fuelie unit. Was VERY COOL and fit with no hood mods.

I dont really want to put a hole in the hood, I want to try to keep a pretty much stock look. I dont mind putting a bigblock hood on, but past that.. im not to wild about. Dont want to draw too much attention on the daily driver!

If the Stealthram is too tall (which it is on 3rd gen Firebirds, I believe) you may want to consider one of these:

I'm keen to put one on a 70 BBC vette. Would need to go on passenger side as PS and alternater is on drivers side. I have a buggered vortech and think it could possibly fit but it is too small for my application. Anyone know if brackets are available and if they fit.
