I personally think it sounds good if you can get it for that price. I paid a bit less for my Qjet. Good luck!

I think the 68 and 69 carbs look identical except for the id numbers. I have a 69 300hp carb that Lars rejetted to 327 350hp specs. Runs like great. I paid 50.00 for a good core.

I'm looking for a 69. LARS said there is something wrong with the 68 carbs.

Go for it. I just hope you don't get screwed like I did - I got a 79? carb that was completely bare inside. This one looks much better though.

I received my 75 from e-bay on monday same day it left for Lars, At $24.00 + freight, Lars will determine if I lost $. The looks of that one is certainly better than the one I received. But looks ain't everything at least in some areas.

Oh Yeah. If you are not concerned about numbers, but want a stock look my nephew has a Q-jet and intake manifold from his 1980 L-82 that is available. He also has a NOS Q-jet that only had 50 miles on it before his bottom end grenaded. It might be nice to have the electric choke. If you are interested I can get numbers and photos

Cali -
Just now caught your post...
That eBay 69 carb would be a good setup if you can snag it for a fair price. It's always hard to tell how bad shape these things are in, but count on that it's going to need a complete rebuild with a $20 choke pulloff, a $12 float, and about $20 worth of jetting parts to correct previous "creative" jetting done to the carb. It could also have stripped inlet threads which cost $50 to fix correctly. If you can get the carb in the $75 range, you would have a pretty good deal.

Just curious- why are you looking for a specific carb if it's not matching your engine anyhow? The only difference between an auto and manual carb is (possibly) the addition of a kickdown bracket for the THM400. The auto would work fine...

I would go for the 68 if it wasn't flawed and the 68 4spd. is what LARS told me to look for. Who am I to argue.

You can use any Chevy Q-Jet from 1969 through 1974. Avoid the truck carbs - they have lean-tipped primary rods. The only reason I don't like the 68 carbs is that they have a very short float pivot pin, tend to break the pivot pin retaining posts, and are very prone to stripped inlet threads. Since they are a bit unique, they also tend to fetch more $$. If numbers matching is not important, go for the '70-'74 carbs - they're plentiful and cheap. A carb off of a '72 350 Chevelle or Monte Carlo would run just great on your Vette. Auto or manual makes no difference in the performance of the carb.

David,

Did you get the Carb you were looking for?

I found this web site while looking for something else. He has several '69 carbs listed. He also has a couple of intake manifolds listed 1-1968 and 1-1969.

If your willing to spring for a rebuilt/restored carb you might want to check these guys out. They have a great selection of correct dated carbs.

This is the hard to find (7041212) carb for my 71 that I got from them.
