Looks like it is time for new shocks. After setting my car back on the ground I bounced the front and back to settle the suspension and it was very springy.
I want to upgrade the suspension some day putting stiffer springs, better shocks and bigger sway bars.
Can I upgrade the shocks now and do the springs and bars later? Or do I need to wait until I can afford springs and shocks together?

I don't know of any reason why you couldn't. If your car needs shocks now by all means install them. It might ride and handle so well you won't need anything else.
Better to do the shocks right first. Beefy springs + crappy shocks = no traction after hitting a bump. Fun! The front spring install will require you to disconnect one end of the shocks to drop the arm, but not a big deal. Disconnecting the top is easier than the bottom because you can just feed the stud back through the top. Rear spring swap does not require shock removal.
There should be no problem just putting in the shocks now and doing the rest later. I plan to install a pair of the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks soon, my buddy put a set in his '77 and loves them
I went the KYB Gas-A-Just route from the Tire Rack. Something like $27 for each shock. Cant complain. Better than OEM but not as good as Bilsteins, but almost 1/3 the price.
