How much cam walk do you get with a solid flat tappet cam? Is it enough to definately run a cam button? I always heard this was needed more for roller cams but who knows if that is correct or not.
No need for cam buttons on flat tappet cams. All flat tappet cams are ground with lobes that lean slightly to the front. The pressure from the lifters will push the cam to the rear.
Roller cams don't have the taper on the lobes so they need something to keep the cam from sliding forward.
:iagree: :iagree:
I agree with zwede. Cam buttons are only used with roller cams. Flat tappet cams walk backwards into the block.
I do like to drill a 1/8th hole in the face of the block behind the cam gear into the main oil gallery to lube the block/cam gear surface.
Thanks Norval. I was definately planning on this. I drill the hole in the center of the 2 galley plugs correct?
I don't know BlackRat. I remove the plugs from the face of the block then look at the area of the block where I want the hole to start from to spread the oil over the surface. I then drill on an angle to run into the oil gallery.
You can see the drill break into the oil gallery behind the plug thread and that is it.
