Outer Door Handles
Since I am going to Corvette Expo tomorrow I will be picking up a few parts for my car. I want some new chrome for the various places. Some for the convertible deck lid and door handles mainly. On the door handles, I know they come in different prices. Some are GM replacements and some are imports. Should I steer away from the imports (Duh) and just try to get the best price on GM replacements. Just looking to see what the Corvette Forum bunch think.
Thanks for your input.
Searched around and bought imports for mine, they look just fine. The car will not go out in the rain or winter, but I guess I'll just have to see how they look in 25 years or so to know if it was a good choice. Paid around $25 each for them. Don't forget the gaskets.
If you're looking at the cheapo imports like I bought ~ 30 bucks, forget it. They self destruct in a few months and will leave you with a jammed-shut door.
Once you install those you will not want to do the job again in a short time (or maybe never depending on the size of your arm and the amount of skin left behind.). The imports will wear ot quickly and they just don't seem to fit exactly right. Also be sure to re-istall the clip that is on the end of the linkage. If you don't the rod will wear the hole elongated in a fairly short time and the door won't open.
i got mine from zip products about 5 years ago, they still look brand new and work great,it also sat outside for most of those years.I just removed them the night before last and they still look new inside and underneath it.
