Power Steering Fluid
I was discussing with my auto parts guy yesterday and he was saying that the dexron automatic trans fluid is actually better than power steering fluid. He was saying that it has better lubrication and corrosion inhibiting qualities. My only question is if I change to it, will it munch any of my seals? Or is it even worth the hassle to change it?

I use GMs PS fluid without any trouble.If there was no trouble using the ATF oil in the PS system,dont you think that the greedy people over at GM would use it to save a few $?

I'm looking for any possible improvement to steering performance and reliability that i can get is the reason why..

that's what I was thinking but i haven't found anything to say otherwise. Knowing the absolutely amazing amount of knowledge in this forum, I wanted to see what people have to say on the subject

I would but the pump is growling like a bear with a sore butt... got a new pump to put on it and am looikng for good preventative measures to keep from changing it again...besides it's raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock up here right now...

Older GM cars said to use Dexro trans fluid on the PS dipstick and in the owners manual.
I use the ATF with no problems...

I had a power steering proportioning valve go bad with about 2,500 miles on it. It was outside warranty and the guy said "bring it back, you're a good customer and we'll stand behind it unless you ran transmission fluid through it."
