Default Requesting good source - new calipers

Hi,
I have a '70 LS5 with the original calipers and would like to replace the fronts with the updated stainless steel sleeved design.

Could someone please recommend a good source for these (in terms of good quality/best price)?

Thanks very much, I appreciate any advice!
John

I bought mine from Vette Brakes & Products. Went the NEW route, didn't want to mess with core exchange. Around $500.00 for all 4. :seeya

Welcome to the forum. Try looking at some of the sponsoring vendors here on the forum. If you don't see what you are looking for, try http://www.calipersonline.com. Rebuilt Delco calipers for $47 plus $40 core. I have 6 of his calipers between my Vette and Camaro and am very happy.

John,

I had a local shop re-sleeve my original ones. Not to big of a deal if you find a guy/shop that knows Vette brakes. Price was reasonable - bit less expensive than buying 4 new ones ...

Is the 420 next to the 454 the horse power, or is there some greater significance ??

:)

Bill

Thanks for the advice guys!

Bill, the Vette's original (390 hp). The 420 refers to my daily driver, a '97 E420. While it's a little more comfortable, it sure feels slow in comparison!

For what it's worth I just replaced both rear calipers on my '82 this weekend. I bought the replacement calipers at AutoZone. I wanted to avoid downtime and since they had them in stock I was able to be back in the road in short time.

Price was right as well, $50 each with a $38 core charge. They have a life-time warranty and are stainless steel sleeved. In fact, I had a leaking piston seal on one of the new ones that they exchanged without question...took me forever to find the leak, thought I had left a bleed screw open or not seated the brake line right...who would've thought it was new equipment error and not user error! :smash:

I decided to keep my original calipers and suck up the core charge. This way I have my original calipers that I will rebuild at a later date should I decide to have her judged.

If you decide to go the AutoZone route, call ahead and make sure they have a few in stock so that you can look them over and select ones that are Delco. They may be rebuilt but at least they will be correct in appearance (the "Delco Moraine" logo is visible through slots in the wheels on my '82)

Got mine from Lone Star Caliper Company, they are at the big shows-on the East anyway. Very reasonable. Look nice.

beware..There is a crook who sells stuff on line from Del Ray beach FL. He has been around for years under various names but the result is always the same. Inferior products like repainted used caliper that have not been sleeved even though that's how he represents them
s how he repr. double charges on you credit card.. You name it :nonod:
