Ok I rebuild the original 350 motor in my 79 with vortec heads and intake with some new high rise valve covers. After getting the motor back in the car and putting all the accessories back on I noticed that I was not going to be able to fit my AC compressor back on. I can live without AC but last nite I also notices I will not be able to put my alternator on. it keeps hitting on the Valve cover. Anyone else ran into a problem like this? Any suggestions?
I'm running the original 350 with Vortecs, but I did not have this problem. The alternator, however does come close to hitting the valve covers, but once it's adjusted, it clears. It's tight, don't get me wrong. But it clears.
The idea of shimming it out, isn't a bad idea, so long as you don't throw the belt. Also, the farther out you run that thing, the harder it's going to be to get the belt on.
Forget everything I just said. I'm running normal valve covers. Sorry.
