I'm in the process now. I bought someone else's project transmission, pumpkin, bellhousing(s) etc. If you don't have the parts yet, (even thouhg it costs more) I'd purchase the tranny new/rebuilt from a reputable firm, get new bellhousing, Hurst shifter (unless you want a stock one, in which case I have one for sale), and send your pumpkin to Zip's or VanSteel for a rebuild (specify your desired gear ratio). May need to change/modify your driveshaft piece that fits in the tailhousing. You'll also need a flywheel, clutch, etc. Toughest part is getting the cross-shaft tab welded in the right spot on the frame (much easier if you remove the body first! :yesnod: ), and you'll need the pedals and such. If I were starting out, I'd get a Richmond 5-speed for not much more cash in the grand scheme of things. I can't help much more than this, as I have all the parts, but haven't completed the frame/chassis/driveline part of my project yet.
There may be some threads in the archives that you can search for.
If I was doing it from scratch, I'd definitely be putting in a 5 speed. The trans part should be pretty straightforward, especially since you have the removable crossmember.
I don't think there should be much difficulty in installing the clutch pedal, z-bar, and linkage.
Just curious guys but why would yoiu definately go with the ROD 5 speed. It is not a true OD the final drive is still 1:1. I am going with the ROD T10 4speed. Its $700 cheaper. I could understand if the ROD 5spd were an OD. Am I missing something here?
