The car is short shifting the gears so it seems. At the track the tranny shifts from 1st too soon than basically shifts to 2nd than right to 3rd like a second later. In effect it seems like 2nd gear is useless. I just had a 2700 stall converter put in so perhaps this is a problem as well as it seems very very lose. Also, if I'm cruising at like 40mph and floor it the rpms will shoot all the way up and not shift. Basically the tranny seem to be slipping. Any ideas or opinions???
depending on ur gears, the "flare" at 40 could be normal w/ a loose converter.
the up shift can be altered w/ the governor. there is a series of weights/springs that control upshift. it works "kinda" like a centrifical advance in a distributor.
although, as always, check to be sure your fluid is not burnt. and, lack of fluid could also cause a simular prob.
when stall increases, shifts do begin to act goofy. but, if it is without a dobt shifting into each gear, just at the wrong time, look to the governor for you answer.
~good luck~ brian
The tranny is in good hands right now. I know that the govenor and kickdown cable will be checked. I hope it's not a bum converter.. Thanks for the responses guys......
