AT LEAST!! Mine is considerably lighter than my stock 82 hood. The difference is in the thickness of the fiberglass and the amount of bracing and stuff inside the hood.
If anyone is interested I have an extra lightweight L-88 hood (long style) no bracing or inner structure.....$100+ shipping ..e-mail DIRECT!! redvetracr@msn.com
Redvetracr, that's a good deal!
I bought my hood (aftermarket) from lottahp and chiseled out all the framework (was glued / joint sealed together). You just have to be carefull not to cause stress cracks. :steering:
I have to ask why? Hoods are cheap. The minimal weight you would save would far be outweighed by the PIA factor of not being able to open it without a friend to help lift it off the car. I'm confused. A race car is one animal, a street driven car is another. Chuck :(
Whe I pull 4 pins and lift off the hood, people know it's not just a car.:rolleyes

Chuck, don't be confused. There are all types of people in this world. Some value certain things more than others. I personally never venture over to view thr NCRS "top flight" cars. They bore me. Instead, I tend to like the ill mannered, barely streetable, in your face, half race type cars. A story in one of the rodding magazines talked of a guy who put a junkyard buick v6 into a rail and ran 9's. That should explain why someone like us would do such a confusing thing. Every ounce counts when you want a go fast ride. :steering:
Oops...sorry guys. Didn't realize that this WAS for a race car. The original post didn't state this. I fully understand the concept of lightening the car, and also understand the need for the better access to the engine/radiator, etc. that is gained by being able to remove the entire hood.
I can also envision the horrendous PIA that this would be on a street driven car.
