Oil Pump Drive
I just received a new high volume melling oil pump and a ARP hardened drive for a small block chevy. The instructions for the pump say the warrenty is void if the drive shaft is not pinned to the pumped. Unlike the factory pump drive shaft which was held in place by a plastic retainer the ARP shaft slips on and off the pump with out a positive method of retaining. Should the ARP shaft be drilled and a rolled pin installed to lock the shaft to the pump. I am afraid of the shaft coming off the pump if I remove my distributor in the future.

Thought they meant the steel sleeve needed to be pinned to the driveshaft. :confused: Just installed one myself. Did not notice if they pump had pre-drilled holes for a pin, does it?

The shaft looks just like the one in the photo. It has the collar but the collar unlike the factory one does not positivly lock to the pump. I interpreted the instructions to say the collar should be pinned to the pump but I am new at this and easily could be wrong. I don't see what would hold this shaft in place if the distributor is removed.

Interesting topic. I am getting ready to put my pump on and noticed the same thing. So I am assuming that the only way to install the pump is with the motor on the stand right side up correct? In other words put the shaft on the pump and then come up from underneath.
