Default One more pertronix question, gap adjustment?

If the gap between the magnent and the lobe is too narrow ~0.010 (rubbing is occuring at one corner), how can I adjust it appropriately to get a bigger gap? Bending?

Yes you need to "tweek" it for a gap. There will be a problem of misfiring if you do not set the gap if the unit has aluminum rivets they will loosen up to the mounting base bracket. The base is used as a grounding point for current flow into the coil, so there will be a misfire and you will blame the unit when it is trying to do it's job (through a loose connection.) The later pick-up units have stronger steel rivets and may be able to take a slight rub but, I wouldn't want mine doing that!. You should also check to see if your advance plate is properly grounded to the distributor body or there could be a high RPM miss-fire as well (the ground wire is staked at the underside of the advance plate to the vacuum advance unit mounting screw, it can be an insualted or uninsulated wire depending on the year of your distributor.) The test for proper grounding is to check with an Ohm meter and get a reading less than 1 ohm between the advance plate and distributor housing. I really like the Ignitor and have used them for over 15 years now.

Thanks for the in depth reply I will definitely get an ohmmeter on it and check to be sure it is properly grounded as I seem to be getting high RPM misfire of some sort.

Say SOlid LT1
Do you happen to know the gap specs for the Ignitor II? I seemed to have "tweaked" mine out too much and now the car doesn't start, just keeps turning over. Fortunately I lost the instructions to my Pertronix.
Thanks in advance.

My gap with two gold washer both side is .012 to .024. My end play required one gold washer. Once this was set she starts up with a twist of the key and no throttle. Note run your wires directly as shown on the directions. No ballast just K.I.S.S
