Default Key/door buzzer "Q". '73

Okay guys,
Here's my first of a sure-to-be long line of questions on the "new" '73;

When I open the door, the buzzer starts a buzzin', like the key is in the ignition, but it's not. If I remember correctly, my '69 Camaro used to have a plunger at the end of the ignition key switch that could stick, telling the car that the key is in the ignition. Would that be the case on the '73 Corvette? I'm guessing that a shot of lubricant in the ignition switch cylinder would fix the problem, but I'd like some "expert" opinions before I start the WD-40 flood.

Thanks, Tom

There is a plastic tab that extends out of the ignition lock cylinder. The tab should retract under the following conditions:
1). When you remove the ignition key from the switch.
2). When you rotate the lock cylinder to RUN or START.

If the plastic tab is stuck and will not retract, then your buzzer will sound every time you open the driver's door. You can try some silicone spray to help release the tab. However, WD40 is NOT a lubricant and WD40 is not particularly good on plastic parts. A good suggested lubricant would be a couple drops of synthetic engine oil on the ignition key.

I would put some synthetic engine on the key itself then wiggle it around inside the ignition. Keep doing it a few times to make sure you have got coverage.

Having the same problem on my '70 T/T column. I just used spray electronic cleaner (through the nozzle extension tube) on the inside of the key cylinder. I'm going to try the synthetic oil trick myself in hopes of unsticking that little bast@rd.
