I have a 1981 that im trying put an electric fuel pump in the tank using GM parts. I asked the guys from street and perfomance for some part #'s and here's what they gave me
250003153 In tank assyembly ?
EP241 Fuel pump ?
GF481 Fuel filter
Im having a problem with the first part # one guy says its not a shelf item? another guy tells me its available for about $570, for that much i could probably get a new tank made.
What is this part?
How is it different from my 1981 (in tank assyembly)
Can i get this part from a junk yard ? If so what kind of car?
Does anyone have any other ideas on how to do this?
I installed a 1982 Corvette sending unit with fuel pump from a 95 in the stock tank of my 79. You should be able to get a sending unit to fit your tank also, I don't think the tank change that much.
Why do i have to change the sending unit? why cant i use the electric pump with the parts i take out of the tank? are they different ? this is my only problem I have a pump what next ? can you elborate more?
the number 25003153 is 82 only because it was the only f.i equipt car from the factory , this allows the use of the later pump in the 82 sender , it may also have a baffle to control fuel slosh not sure, i installed a holley projection on my car once and used a external pump , you could do the same , and keep you same sender in tank and save your self at least 350.00 , be advised to keep more than 1/4 tank of fuel if using an external pump with no baffle or no extra resevoir sump in line , if you want the 82 sender i can suggest places to purchase it at a cheaper price , hope this helps
Where else could i get this part ? this GM parts direct lists it but doesnt say if its stocked. Im told the failure rate of external fuel pump is very high? what happens when you low on fuel ? any good external pumps?
i will check tommorow to see if gm has any stock left , the current gm wholesale price is 401.00 and change , call you local dealer and ask them if there is a local ac delco warehouse that they buy parts from , call more than one and ask the same question, i happen to have one in my town where we buy our parts from , i know of one in atlanta, new orleans , mobile al, birmingham ,al , these are just in my region , any one of the ones i deal with would most likely sell to you for less than the 401.00 price though they may have to order it , that all depends if it is a delco part , though most fuel senders are, as to extenal pumps and baffles, my car would go dead if i took a on or off ramp with less than a 1/4 tank , the pickup would be uncovered and it would lose prime, that can be cured with a small baffle or resevoir in the tank , as to the pump check jegs for some of there fuel injection pumps , there are some that will support over 1000 hp reliably find a accell book and there are many parts they have for fi conversions there easiest thing just search and read on the internet the are thousands of people before you that have done these conversions and hundreds are on the internet,
gm has stock of the sender in michigan warehouse any local dealer can order for you will take about 2-3 days depending on your location, my local delco warehouse did not have any , just ask the guy behind the counter if he will sell it to you for 401.06 which is wholesale discount to any local repair shop that they do bus. with , they should not have too much problem selling to you for that , if they do go to another one , making a little is better than making nothing on a part, hope this helps , vette75406
