there are two horns a low note and a high note.. thare a lot of reasons why thay don't work
- the horns are turned up, so therefore water gets in them and stop from working
- something 30 years old will stop working
- bad wireing

Take the wire off of the horn. Connect a jumper wire from the horn to the power stud on the alternator. If the horn blows then you know it works. If it doesn't blow then it is bad. If the horn works then remove the horn button. Remove the horn contact and take a small screwdriver and insert it in the hole where the contact was if it blows then replace the contact spring and contact.
Also it could have a bad horn relay or a bad turn signal switch.

Question. When you hit the horn button do you hear a clicking sound? If so, then either the horn is bad or not getting proper ground or current.
Pull the green wire from the horn and run a direct 12v supply from the stud off the alt. If the horn blows then bypass the horn relay. Hit horn button. Horn blows replace relay.
If you run 12v supply to the horn and it won't blow, then leave it alone and make a jumper ground wire. Once you have an established ground on the horn hit the 12 v. to it again. If it blows then leave the ground wire there, and hit the horn button.... Get the idea?
If none of this works. Pull the horn button off the car. Take the upper contact 3949103 out. When you do this there will be a alum. pin sitting there 474102 lwr contact. Take two screw drivers and touch one to the pin and use the other one to ground out to the hub. Horn blow? If so, replace the upper contact.

Once my horn wasn't working. Under the cap the spring and rod were not working properly. I removed the rod and spring and stuck a small diameter screw driver in the hole were the rod and pin were to complete the circuit to check for a honk. The screw driver completed the circuit verifing a worn spring and rod. Check the back of the cap too. Just some thoughts that might help. :seeya

Tremendous resourse this forum...thanks a lot for all the help. I jumped the horn to the alternator and it worked. Jumped the horn relay to the green wire and it worked. It must be the relay. I tried to test the horn button pin, but with a bad relay, that is not possible, right, because when you jump the relay, the horn works w/o pushing the button.
Is the relay a dealer item or a Zip item? :cheers:

I get shocked when I press the horn and touch the metal spokes on the steering wheel...So you hear the horn and a loud cuss at the same time!! :D

I shopped the catalogs for the horn relay and was very surprised at the price variations.
