I want to change my red interior into a black interior. What kind of advice can you guys give me? What type of paints and dyes should I use for particular pieces. Obviously I'll be getting new carpet and seat covers but I was hoping everything else can be colored differently.
I did it many years ago. The dye lasted about one year, and it would always chip and peel. I ended up replaceing the dash and door panels just recently when I redid the whole vette. The dye you can get nowdays is a lot better than i used 20 years ago. The main thing you need to do is CLEAN the parts real good. You can get the cleaner from any car paint store. Good luck

I went from dark blue to black. I'm glad I did as you can usually get any part in black. Its not that difficult but will take some time. Have fun :yesnod:

I did tan to black and so far after 2 years, it still looks great.
I washed what was really dirty in dawn dish soap/water mix and let dry. I then wiped down with Xylol/Xylene solvent to make the parts VERY clean. I simple rub will do and dont rub much back and forth as this can take off the grain texture on plastic parts if you work it hard. Youll still get more sirt off with the solvent. I used Xylol because it didnt leave a residue once dry.
I then sprayed with vinyl paint both SEM brand(PPG store) and Plastikote(Walmart/Pep Boys/ Checker/Autozone) brand. Both worked equally well and the result was fantastic!!
Yes, cleanliness is next to Godliness, especially when it comes to interior dye jobs. Refreshing a color is a heck of a lot easier than changing a color. Good luck.
