My speedometer needle is bouncing upa nd down 10 to 15 mph at all speeds.
Does this indicate a kink in the line or a failing cable or failing speedometer head unit or ?
Do you have cruise control,a fault in the transducer can cause that.If not it sounds like binding in the cable, either dry or caked with muck. You will need to remove the cable & remove the inner piece, clean them both with solvent & relube.Should solve the problem.
A bouncing speedometer is usually a sign of non-lubed cable, or the cable itself being bad. The cable is nothing more than a long tightly wound spring and it can stretch.
Try this trick first: Pull the cable off the transmission and then pull the cable out of the housing enought to grind about 1/8" off the end. Put it back in and test drive. If it stops bouncing, you found your problem (cable stretched). If you need to lube it, it has to come out from the speedo head end under the dash.

Don't know the cause, but I can tell you if you don't address it your speedo will not only stop bouncing, it will eventually stop moving all together. Mine was bouncing around for the past several months until last Saturday when I was on the freeway and I heard a loud "crack", like a big rock hit my windshield. When I didn't see any damage on the glass I looked down and saw my speedo quit. Guess I snapped the cable. So, my advice - FIX IT NOW!
