I'm not sure if it is the same as the 80. On the 80, there is a rubber plug installed in the wiper bay area in front of the hood latch. Use a long screwdriver to push the plug out, then push down on the latch release and it will open. Hope this helps.

There is a plug on the passenger side, but not the drivers side. The driver side rules the operation. Right? I don't think popping the passenger side will disengage the drivers side on a 72.

The drivers side has a large door in the wiper tray area held on by 4 bolts, but I can't believe this is an access, because I don't recall seeing it from the other side. Before I loosen these bolts, I'd like to hear someone say this is the way to go. I don't want to disable something on the engine side of the firewall that I cannot get to.

Even if you don't know the answer, please look at your firewall and under the wiper door and give me a clue. Thanks.

Take the driver side egg grill off the fender and you can reach up and unlatch it.

I had to do one a work last week. It is easy.

You got a lot of good tips here. Seems like I recall someone was able to loosen the front of the hood from the bottom and get into from there.

I read about this problem before so I ran a heavy wire (hanger) from the latch and let it hang down to the frame on the drivers side as a backup opener. Reach up and yank her. Hope you get it open.

Corvette Ed is THE MAN!!!!!!! Thanks everyone. It was easy, and I got lucky and didn't lose the brass pinch nut. It was laying in the fender, which I found out after walking the driveway in the dark with a utility light. No doubt, my neighbors think I'm crazy.

Unfortunately, I did have some of the cable snap on me, so the cable is a hair too short. I'll live with it a while.

Thanks again. This forum is great.
