:iagree: On my 76, one of the former owners had not only done that, but drilled it out for the 77 crossed flags. I did all the bodywork, and had it painted and forgot to fill in the holes! So it ended up with 77 logos anyway. But very likely somone just filled them in to give it a "cleaner" look.

Thats what I thought. I tried to look inside but it was to hard to tell if there had been holes or not.

my '77 came with stringray on the sides and i was so green to Corvettes i didn't know '77 had no logo- let alone they shouldn't be in the cowling.

Some would remove emblems for a cleaner look as Shrike said.
The factory wanted to change the new car so that it could be identified as new at the time. Emblems are an inexpensive way to do it. Some would change to the new ones.
I remove emblems like L-82 & 454.
