Background--took Vette out Friday--ran fine. Put it in the garage till Sunday afternoon and Holy Dog Doo--Smoke belching out of exhaust and oil all over engine bay. Lots of oil around carb and air cleaner. Breather tube off
Some Forum members ideas:
1. exhaust valve dropped and put hole in piston--NOPE
2. intake manifold bolts loose--NOPE
3. exhaust pipe had collapsed inside--NOPE
4. pcv valve--NOPE
Hints:
1. the heaviest concentration of oil seemed to be on passenger side of engine and bay
2.small smell of gas in the garage
3.the reading on the dipstick was 1/3 the way up the stick not a couple of inches like it should be under normal conditions
No skulls full of mush here--BINGO--ruptured diaphram in fuel pump--I never thought that much pressure would build up in crankcase--one to file away if ever--Good Job guys and thanks for all the suggestions--kept me looking and upbeat till I found the little gremlin-- :yesnod:
if you catch the problem early the plus is you do a oil change after you replace fuel pump then do another a week later change it again... No sludge
in the engine
Thanks Comp--Good tip--I imagine it will smoke a bit for awhile--I wiped down everything I could with mineral spirits and some Simple Green and water--I know there is still some ish on exhaust pipes and undercarriage.
