Greetings to all, I would like to say that I enjoy this site as much as the next man (or woman). I have learned alot from others questions. I finall got to a point to ask a few questions of my own. I have a 79' L82 auto, red w/ blk interior. I have some new ss/o-ring calipers that are freshly painted and will be put on in the morning when my ss lines and master cyl arrive tomorrow. Ok to get to the question, are there any small things that I could replace and/or repair while I am down there?? I have packed the front wheel bearings and done some spring cleaning under there and thats about it. I checked the trailig arms and they appear to have no slack in them. Another idea I had was taking down the spare tire and carrier, I have seen a few pics that looked good. I know you all want pictures so hang in there and I will try to take a few with the RED calipers on. Should look good on there.
Also moving to New Mexico this week anyone from there??
Can't help you with the questions. I am still de"bubba"ing mine.
You Might check the bushings while your underneath and just a general making sure that everything is tight. Check out the exhaust system and look for leaks. That's what I am going to do whenever I get under mine.
The spare tire carrier can be a pain to get out if you have much rust.
I ended up cutting the carrier hanger bolts to get it down.
Get the 11/16 (I think) wrench out and try a couple turns of the front hanger bolts.
You might have to drop the top first - to get at 'em better.
While you have the front up in the air, I would closely examine the control
arm bushings, tie rods, boots, etc. Also check to make sure your frame
is not starting to crack or bend near the front bolts of the lower control
arm mounting bracket - particularly on the passenger side.
