Is it possible to install all new suspension without a lift? I'm thinking about purchasing an entire suspension kit for my 78 vette, but don't have a lift.
Can I do all the work with jack stands? I'm guessing it will be pretty hard.

Re: suspension (ugman)
That is how I did mine. Took me 2 winters to do the whole job but it can be done off of jackstands. I did the rear suspension one winter and the front the next winter.
IF you have a concrete floor garage, a decent floor jack like a Sears 2+ ton, and some GOOD jackstands...it's a no sweat operation....OH one more thing, it's really helpful to have a decent compressor and air tools....
you may want to rent a spring compressor also...no biggie....
the rear is much simpler than the front....yeh, well no tschit....
not that hard to do if you can leave it on jacks. did mine this past winter :seeya
Just finished mine to. Completed the front and rear and replace all of the steering over this past winter. Add a torch and lots of penetrating oil to the list. Don't forget lots of BEER to. It helps to give you patience. :D

... add a hydraulic press to the list ... or spend that much on press work.
You can send all the components out for rebuild ... but it costs a bit more
than the parts alone. Doing it yourself can cost you lots of time, though.
I'm going on three years without my vette this summer - no way - whipping
it together with an ugly body and nice chassis to drive her. In November I'll
think about the next step forward - interior, paint, engine upgrades.
It can be done but I would suggest you hookup with someone that has done it before. Both front and rear springs are under a lot of pressure! :steering: Do a lot of reading!!
NO PROBLEM!!! I did the entire front suspension (from VPB) in 2 evenings after work. Upper & lower (box-tube A-rms), shocks, transverse fiberglass spring. The rear... In a Saturday afternoon, Dual-mount rear sring, smart struts, shocks. On jack stands. I think it's easier than a lift having to work above your head like that.
I'm doing the front suspension on my '71 right now, with jackstands on a gravel drive. It ain't the most fun I've ever had, but it's not that bad. Spring compressor is a must, and a book helps. The Hanes book only helps if you've already got a good parts diagram: there's one in the Van Steel catalog that I'm using.
