Re: give your tips for keeping cool without A/C (theandies)
There was a company a few years back selling small evap coolers for the car. You filled it with water, plugged it in to the cigarette lighter and it would cool the air. And it did it pretty damn well as long as you don't live where the humidity is over 50%.

Cool, a swap cooler for your car. I remember those things when I lived in Phoenix. Set-up my workbench in the hangar I used to work in under one to keep cool. They do work great when the humitiy is low.
Re: give your tips for keeping cool without A/C (comp)
While most of these cat's remarks have just been in fun, I'm sure you asked to get a real answer. I have a small residential painting company and my big seller is an insulating ceramic coating. My customers rave to me about how their a/c almost doesn't come on after we coat the house, and how much they save on cooling cost. To lower mp.g. to meet federal standards, a lot of the car manufacturors now spray ceramic coating in the rooves of their vehicles. It reduces how much a/c is needed, hence saving on fuel. If I wasn't so weight conscience, I'd remove evrything and spray behind it. Think of standing in the shade when a breeze comes. Only difference with your vette is that you are allowing lots of heat in from the engine, tranny and exhaust. Also, radiant and conductive heat from the sun through your roof. Stop those from getting in the car and you will be sitting in the shade with a breeze (at least while you are moving). Hope this helps.

I'm not sure about the ceramic coating itself, but when put on wood it has an R-24 value. All I know is that the stuff really works. As part of the sales demonstration my salesmen do, we have the homeowner hold a strip of metal that has been coated with ceramic on the end they're holding. A lighter is held under the uncoated end for a long time. The homeowner never feels a thing. It's then dipped into water so the homeowner can hear it hiss and sizzle. It usually draws a "wow" from them. We also set up two little houses, one coated and one not, under a radiant heat lamp. They both have thermometers in them. By the time the uncoated one pegs out, it's over 60 degrees hotter inside.

Only thing I did was have my radiator re-cored and added dual Spals...180 all day long on the hottest days. Other than that....oh yeah....side mounts, practically eliminated all cabin heat. When I had stock exhaust, my feet would bake.

Been driving C3's for many years here in Fl. During the heat of the day especially in summer, it's brutal without AC and not much better with AC, got used to doing my driving before noon or later in the day.
