Dumb question: 220V -> 240V?

Default Dumb question: 220V -> 240V?
Folks,

Is there any way to step up/down/sideways a 220 outlet to "make" 240V? I have a 240 compressor...and only a 220 outlet :/

Your 240 volt comp. will run fine on 220. If you check most 220 circuits they can be anywhere from 210 to 240 volts. If you check 110 circuits the yvary also. Have seen a low of 105 to a high of 125 volts.

220 is 240 or 240 is 220

240 is the theoretical voltage (used in calculations) 220 is how most refer to it. what you actualy measure could vary depnding how close you house is to the transformer.

These things were designed by the government, so 220 is close enough to 240...

or it's 240 for a high voltage and 220 volts as a standard

Which of course is completely differant than 208, 208 is 3 phase commercial...
