I finally got the A/C working in my car, but the high speed on the blower wouldn't work at all. So I took the relay apart, cleaned the contacts, and put it back on the car. It worked great for about two weeks, but then quit again. So I bought a new one, and I'm having the same problem with it. The new one lasted a week and a half.
As hot as it gets here in Houston (present rainy weather excluded), and as hot as shark's cabin temps are anyway, I really need the high speed on this blower.
Anyone else run into this? And if so, is there a fix? I really don't want to have to take this thing apart every other week for 8 months out of the year.
Check the connectors & wiring at the back pass. side of dist. cover. There is a lot of current & burned up one connector (pink wire) which was removed & goes to the larger connector & replaced another connector (black wire).
All I know is when I either a) take it apart and clean it, or b) put a new one on, it works afterwards. At least for a couple of weeks.
I'm not sure where else to look for another problem. The high speed on the blower is this relay's sole purpose in life. And the blower is new as well, so I certainly don't see that as the problem.
You might try the 30 amp inline fuse in the orange wire leading to the horn relay/tiepoint/distribution center.....on the drivers' fender liner....
that is famous over the years in all GM cars as a trouble point.....
I just replace the thing with a more modern aftermarket weather tight fuse holder and 30 amp blade fuse.....
you may also check for an inline harness connector used in later sharks...mine didn't have one, and certainly does not now, as I rewired the car MY way....
If you have a voltmeter you can do some simple tests. Turn the switch so that the blower should be going - if you have battery voltage (+batt) on the coil, +batt on the input of the relay and nothing on the output then you have a bad relay. If you have no +batt on the coil then I would suspect the switch.
