Some of you might remember that I posted about a year ago that one of my header pipes would always show a different temperature than the header pipes on the other 7 cylinders... (measured with a laser temperature gauge).
I finally found the reason... The header temp is actually the same on all cylinders, but the chrome on pipe number 1 is shinier than the chrome on the other pipes.. The reflection of the pipe actually caused a false reading... I measured on the side of the pipe where the chrome is more dull.. and I got the same reading as on all the other 7 cylinders.. I didn't know that the laser gauge wouldn't work correctly on reflective surfaces

Re: Old header temp mystery solved... (GrandSportC3)
We use these type temp sensors at work sometimes. The ones we work with have an adjustable emisivity feature. This allow for different types of surfaces to be read. Most of the ones that you and I can buy, are not adjustable. Good find. BTW, the one I have I got at sears and gave $30-40 for it. Works good for what I want to do.
