I finally fired the car up this afternoon! Yesterday I spent most of the day tying up loose ends and toubleshooting some power issues (and a minor fuel leak). Today after work I figured out what was wrong, called my friend over to hold the fire extinguisher and camera, and turned the key. Once it fired, it was like a demon come to life (it's got a decent sized cam and open manifolds and we were in my small 2 car garage). I have video and pics... I'll post a link when my friend hosts them.
It ran for about 15 minutes in the driveway. I was just about to take it up the street when the main battery cable going to the starter melted and grounded itself to the manifold. Oh well, it's a little thing that can get fixed when I get back from vacation next week.
Great job! Looks good, and I know that thing is gonna drive great. The new FI LSX engines are outstanding smallblock motors.
Budman, if you ever decide to get more radical and want to buy LS1edit, I will be happy to show you around that program. I have tuned a number of late-model F-bodies/Vettes with LS1edit. It is not difficult to use, and the interface is decent. Or, you can just have one of the good local shops tune it for you...the only disadvantage is that you don't have your own program, so you are stuck with whatever you get from them. It just kind of depends on what you want.
It's Thunder Racing's 224/224 cam on a 112LCA. It's a pretty mild cam (224 duration and 0.561 lift on both sides) compared to some of the others that people are putting in theses days but I wanted to keep the torque down low where it's needed for street driving.
Wa2Fast: Have you checked out HPTuners product yet? It's supposed to be as good as (if not better than) Edit and it includes a scanning and logging software built in. I haven't bought it yet, but I may.
I've heard really good things about that cam. It will run fine with the stock PCM programming, and if you end up tuning it, it will not be hard to work with as far as getting driveability _perfect_.
Honestly, I have not seen the HP product yet. Do you have a web address for it? I'd like to check it out. A scanner and tuner in one would be cool. I had to buy scan software _and_ the tuning tool seperately. LS1edit can definitely be improved on. But at least it is something. Quite honestly I find tuning computer-controlled FI easier than a carb...but that's probably just a function of cutting my teeth on late model cars.
http://www.hptuners.com Quite a few of the LS1 F-body guys at LS1Tech.com use it and seem to like it a lot. In fact, the developers post there quite often and have made numerous chnages/additions based on feedback.
I'm on stock tuning right now but I need to turn off some things (emmissions, rear O2s, skip shift, etc) just to clear the "check engine" codes. I was going to have it dyno tuned but I'm very tempted to just buy the HP Tuner and mess with it myself.
WA2FST - I'm going to have Keith Craft dyno tune mine. I didn't ask what program they use. I just assumed it was LS1edit. Most of my tuning will be deleting sensors like Matt. Once I got to a cam, I will start tweaking the MAP and timing.
