Side Windows (HELP!!!!!)
I didn't think there would ever be a challange on this restoration that would have me second guess my decision to purchase and take this on...
HOWEVER,
Getting my drivers window to roll up all the way is pushing me to the edge!
I've followed all the advise I can find so far... got in the car, put the windows up, loosened all the alignment bolts then tried to put it up, etc...
Two things remain to be fixed... 1. the window catches the aligment tab on the windshield pillar if I try to close the door with the window all the way up. and 2. it seems to be catching on the windshield pillar weather stripping which is keeping it from going all the way up on the top (lack about 1/16 of an inch.
Is there an adjustment to shift the window from front to rear?
Also
Is there an adjustment that will keep the window pressed in from the outside? The felt alighment tabs can be adjusted to push it out. But how do you push it in?
If I could just make these two adjustments I think I would have this one under control. Passenger side adjusted and worked very well.
Thanks in advance for the HELP...
A Newbee.

The best help you can get for adjusting the windows on a 1968 to 1982 Corvette is the Assembly manual. There are detailed pages in this manual that will take you step for step through the factory adjustment of the door glass.
There are several adjustments to the door glass that include the door window regulator screws, the rear door glass channel, and the door window felt pads. The AIM will tell you to raise the door glass to 1" of the top of the car. Then you want to make the difference from the front pillar to the front edge of the glass the same difference. Once you have this established you can then adjust the stop to keep the glass from going up to far. But the key is to get the glass where it needs to be in relation to the top and the pillar. Then go to the other adjustments.
The flopping or in and out of the glass is controlled by the front and rear window track. The door window pads are just anti-rattle pads that should have a little tension on the glass to keep it from... We’ll rattling! Your in and out adjustment on the run channels work in reverse. To make the glass come in at the top, take the channel out! To make the glass go out at the top take the channel in.
Get you a AIM. Usually 17.00 - 20.00 from your suppliers.

Red... I "really" appreciate the detailed advise! I have an assembly manual as well as a shop manual and will check these out.
Thanks Again! And if you are ever in Texas... a on me!

Your front and rear tracks have adjustment slots. Move the front track outward this will allow the glass to lean inward and meet the weatherstrip correctly and also allow the guide tab to grab the glass ensuring a good fit!

Are you sure the plastic rollers in the window tracks are installed correctly? My drivers side window had a similar problem where it would hit those tabs or the b pillar when I shut the door. It turned out the plastic roller was eaten up which caused the slop in the window. I bought a new bushing from tld and all was well.

Ed,
To get to the rollers, you have to remove the window, and the tracks from the door. Not a fun job, I know because I ordered the complete kit, and haven't started this project yet.
Glad to hear you did get your windows aligned. I still fight mine, but I have lots of slop in the window, that's why I ordered the new roller kit.

Re: Side Windows (Desertdawg)
Thanks again!
I just finished and think I have it... hopefully will not have to take apart the tracks and rollers for now... some play in the window but not enough to get excited about with a 24 year old car.

DesertDawg,
Have you removed your window tracks yet? Ben looking at this on my 79. How do you get the tracks out. How much of a pita was it. Thanks, Pat

Nope...Parts are still sitting here in the bag.
It's still hitting 110 degrees here, and we have a couple of corvette events coming up in the next few weeks with the ACE group. So I have put it off some more.
I do hope to get this done during Sept...

Drive on over to Allen, and I'll teach you all about adjusting
the window...
Door pad removes with 4 screws, two in the middle at the front/rear
end of the door (black screws probably) and 2 on the top. One at the rear
end of the door, other where the door opening handle is.
Remove the door pad, remove the power lock cable? remove the window adjustment lever and move away the pad.
Check the AIM for all the adjustments of the screws. There are about 10 screws
than can be adjusted...
