Default Getting to the heater core

I am having problems getting to the heater core. I pulled the inside dash panels off, and am trying to get the outer casing off. My books show 4 main bolts in each of the 4 corners that hold it in, I pulled off the upper right, and both of the bottom bolts, but the upper left bolt is not a bolt, what is this and how do I take it off?

Not sure what year you have, but I just did my 81 about a month ago. There is a nut on the engine side that has to be removed too. You remove the nut and the threaded stud will come off with the housing. Good luck, I had a heck of a time doing this job, but it all worked out well in the end.

Sorry about that, mine is a '75, do you remember how you got to the nut in the engine bay? was it from the top or from underneath and did anything have to be removed in the engine bay before you could get to the nut?

Thanks for your help, I got it out and bought a new one, tomorrow I pick it up and start the grueling process of putting it all back together. Thanks again.

There is a nut on the engine side that has to be removed too.
on the wifes 1973 - the nut was near the top of the airbox in the engine compartment.
