Can anyone tell me if a right angle fitting is availble to use when recharging a 1978 AC? I have (2) cans of R12 with a hose , but because of the compressor bolt, I cannot get the hose onto the fitting. The shop manual states to recahrge at the condensor tank by the wheel well, but I cannot get the hose into there either. My next thought is to attach the hose at the compressor low pressure side with the bolt removed, and then replace the bolt for charging. Any suggestions?
A kit I bought at Advance Auto a few years ago came with a 90 degree fitting on it. I don't remember what brand it was, but it was one that came with a gauge. Hope that helps!
Can you charge it at the accumulator? Thought there should be one on your year, located at the firewall? Removal of the bolt to install the charging hose won't work because you will need to remove the bolt again to remove the charging hose (you will lose the charge when removing the bolt).
Should be able to charge it at the accumulator. If not, it is possible to buy a charging hose at a commercial HVAC supply shop with a 90 on the end. You can also buy just a 90 from the commercial guys (same hose as R22-like your house probabaly). You can also buy the 90s through Snap-On or similar, or order from the better auto parts stores (NAPA, CarQuest, etc.)
