Looks like 2 or 3 very low mile Pace Cars are on Ebay right now. I think one even has 5 miles and there is a 13K mile L82 4 speed. I think both are bidding high teens right now.
It's funny I was just going to start a thread about a Pace Car that I saw today.. 8 miles.. Sitting in a little hick town here in Eastern NC. I was really surprised to see that you guys were talking about Pace Cars and the amount that were just parked.. FYI it's in Windsor, NC. which is just south of Elizabeth City, NC. on Rt 13.. Don't know if it's for sale but it looked nice... 8 miles.. The Chevy Dealer there is A & W I think.. Really small but I guess every dealer got a Pace Car... Dave...
here is some more of the story on the car with a 2 minute video of it being hauled out of the Weaver dealership. scroll down to the WNEP TV video room/ on the Pennsy Road/ 78 Corvette. i couldnt figure out how to link the video http://www.wnep.com/Global/category....13467&nav=5juw
I bet it will go 25k+.
Sounded like a neat video, must have been taken off now. All I can find is some heavy eqpt video now
There is a 78 pace car in the show room of the small Chevy dealership in my old home town. It has 28 miles. Same sort of condition as the one described here, except the dealership is active and the car hasn't sat unattended.
It is an L82 4 speed. Not for sale as far as I know. There are no "for sale" cars in the show room, only the dealer's collector cars, so it will probably never be for sale.
I can't believe someone would stoop so low to do this. Your 3 mile Pace car is getting pimped. Some joker is trying to make a couple bucks off it on Ebay.

"IT IS UNTITLED AND HAS A DOCUMENTED 3.4 MILES ON IT. I SPOKE TO THE AUCTIONEER AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE A LETTER FROM GM GIVING THE TRACKING HISTORY ON THE CAR. IT WAS MANUFACTURED MAY 13, 1978 IN ST. LOUIS MO AND DELIVERED TO A DEALER WHERE IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS."
I thought GM lost all that info. How could they supply them with the tracking history of the car?
Sorta makes the authenticity of a 7 mile car seem questionable to me. Does a 26 year old car with 7 miles stand a chance to run well? I would think there would have to be some issues with seals and so forth. I wouldn't think the brake calipers would have a snowball's chance at working properly. Tires probably would have flat spots too, right? And what, did they drive the car 100 yards and then say it ran and drove excellent? If I had a car come in my shop for sale that had 7 or fewer miles on it of that vintage, I don't think I would try to add any to that.
Well, unless if there were a such thing and it were a 7-mile ZL1 that is.
I own a 41,900 mile 25 year old car that sat in a protected garage from 1982 to 2000, and it was a huge train wreck when I brought it back to life. No brakes, leaks everywhere, etc...
But as always, I realize I am just stating opinion... and you know what they say about opinions...
I think it went for $30k even. Like I said, some idiot would bid the moon for it. I understand it was a collectible car sales group that purchased it. Where do you go with that thing when you own it for 30k?
There's loads of low mi '78 Pace Cars out there. Many people were advised to buy them as 'investments' at the time. They will NEVER be 'rare'. And they were the most over-hyped marque in all automotive history.
