Anyone using the half shaft safety loops and how was the installation. I see them for sale at $119.00 a pair....does that include all the hardware for the install or do you need more from Drag vettes....Thanks
I have a set on and they work great. Very easy to install and all hardwarecomes with the hoops. If you plan on running your vette at the track it is money well spent. Vince

I've got them on my car and feel it was money well spent for safety
Thanks guys for your imput, can you tell me how much space is between the battery/storage compartment and the hoops?, my ujoints come close to the walls there and I was wondering if the hoops actually touch the walls, any pics of your installed hoops would be great!
Thanks again
Smoked Tires, Thanks for the pic, says it all there and nice touch making the loops red. Looks like an easy bolt on, does the kit come with the extra length bolts for the strut rod connection? your rear looks like mine LOL I have all the other bolt ons like you....
Thanks again Mike and all, I ordered my loops today from Steve at Drag vettes and should be here next week. Looks like the easiest way to install them is to remove the bolts at the yolk at the trailing arm side, jack up the trailing arm removing the pressure off the half shaft, then seperate the u joint from the yolk then bolt up the loop, does that sound about right Mike or do you have an easier way. I think I'll spray mine red also to match my 73 vert, nice little touch to show off the goodies... here's a site to see my 73 vert and my undercarriage, tell me what you think.... http://members.cardomain.com/73jst4fun

Money well spent, my friend. Money well spent.
All the hardware you need comes with the kit. The only thing you'll need to supply is a drill motor and a bit to drill your trailing arms should you opt to install the optional two extra bolts (Included.)
Mike, where did you get your loops? Do they make driveshaft loops too? I really need to get a set of those.
Not that I'm aware of Steve, but I too need to get a driveshaft loop if I want to return to the track, along with a new 5pt harness (mines outdated)
Jay your 73 looks great ! Keep up the good work You'll have everything you'll need once the loops arrive. It sounds like you have a pretty good idea of how to install them
If you look closely to the left side of my fiberglass spring, you'll see where my half shaft hit it the last tiime I broke an inner axle. The half shaft also caused the left tire to lock up. This is when I decided I needed to try & prevent my halfshafts from destroying my car, directly or indirectly
Mike, It looks like the hoops will be an easy install, I've torn out and replaced everything in the rear so hopefully this will be easy (how many times have you said that), just looked at your pic Mike and your using the composite spring from Vette Brakes?, I'm using the TRW spring and I know that the TRW spring flares out to the trailing arm, hope there's enough clearance between the hoop brace and the spring???
was wondering if you ever go to Englishtown? They have a big event coming up August 7th, last year they had around 600 vettes there, I go for the show and go and looking forward to see what my vert can do now with all the engine mods I did this past winter. I'll have to be carefull, anything below 13.99 you better have a roll bar, be nice to find a fabricator that makes a roll bar with seatbelt provisions that somehow bolts up without cutting the glass, also hard to believe that no one makes a poly fuel cell for our vettes that is the same dimensions as the stock tank. Like you I removed the spare and would feel alot safer with a poly tank. Thinking about installing some type of foam barrier, love the idoits that get right on your a&** at a light or in traffic, I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about

I don't have a pic of the loop behind the battery box, but I don't remember it being a problem. I could take a pic if you need one.
Here's a pic of 1 of the loops installed:
Hey Smokedtires do those loops come in different sizes. I don't have any 1/2 shaft loops and broke at least 6-8 1/2 shafts (over the years) when I HAD a manual transmission. Looks like the 1/2 shafts would still do some damage to the spring and/or shock. Sure every time one let loose on my car it something(s) out along with it (Shock, spring, strut rod, storage box). It still looks like it will. I would "think" the loop would have a little less of a diameter than that.
Lotahp, looks like they could make the hoop smaller by extending the hoop brace from the trailing arm giving it more angle, I don't know why they make the hoop that size...installation ease, accommodate a larger/custom half shaft for other years maybe? Is there one end of the half shafts that has more failure? I remember the old two piece drive shaft in my 62 impala with the center bearing, always broke that... maybe Mike has an answer for us....
I still have 2 driveshaft loops for sale from back when I had a run of them made by a machinist. Send me an email if interested. The loops are made of 1/4" steel and are anodised in a silver/metal color. $100+shipping. I can email some pictures.
