I hooked up a Dell 2300 cable modem/ router http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...tegory_id=4011
last year with to use with my Toshiba laptop and it was very easy to get set up and going. (BTW-I bought it for way less than the link shows, I think around $60)

I bought the cheapo bottom-line D-Link system that Best Buy sells. Uses a wireless router and receivers that plug into the USB port of the receiving computer. Works like a charm, covers the whole house. I notice zero drop in speed.

Hey Will, are you planning on going to the Sharks & Stingrays get together at Big Dave's next week?

D-Link is cheap and the drivers for their cards are MUCH better than Linksys. The Linksys routers are ok, but I steer clear of their cards because of the drivers.

I am using a LinkSys router and laptop WiFi cards. The router and 2 Dell Dimension desktops (Win98, Win2000) wired into the router with network cables are in my basement. I also have 2 Dell Inspiron laptops (WinXP and Win2000) that are generally located in our sun room on the back of the house (when the weather is nice ) using the WiFi cards to access the network. The signal strength varies between 20-60% going through the basement ceiling 1 interior and 1 exterior wall and generally works very well. Whatever you go with, make sure to set up the encryption if you are concerned about privacy!

I installed a LINKSYS 802.11g. "g" is the latest wireless technology, encripted for tight security and FAST. BEST BUY has them.

In the future... you may want to move this to the OT area... Very little tolerance for deviation from the topic in this forum... can't blame everyone..

I did the same as JB, but bought mine from Costco. It works fine for my home use. I'm using WEP encryption, so that slows the speed down a little, but I guess that's the price you hav to pay for encryption.

The NetGear WGT624 is a wireless G router, capable of Super G (double the bandwidth of regular G) and also has an exceptional range, according to testing.

I use it, and it works pretty well.

I use a D-Link DWL-2100AP access point (I already had a router) with a D-Link DWL-G650 card for my laptop. Works great, got it all at Comp USA.

Are you putting this in your car? I'm confused how this relates.

ok, i put these in often, if your on a laptop, the linksys works great. On the other hand, if its in a desktop, dont buy linksys shtuff, just like others have said, it took me ages to get it to work, will never use it for desktops again, but its ok to mix and match so you can get the linksys router and a different card. If i were you i would also pop for the G version which is 54mb/s over the B which is only 11mb/s
