Default 1982 whats it worth?

A local guy here has a 1982 coupe. Fresh repaint, the body looks EXCELLENT. Engine looks absolutely factory, but dirty as heck, and the interior is almost completely trashed. The dash looks salvagable down to the gauges, but the shifter console and back is disasembled and dirty. Missing one seat, other is trashed, door panels are missing, carpet is trashed. He is asking $5900. I have not heard it run or driven it, but lets just assume it runs and shifts ok. Frame is spotless.

See if you can get him down another grand or more, it's going to cost you more than that to put the interior back together. Plus you don't know how it runs or shifts.

If you want a project, and it's just the interior that needs most of the work, then it's a good deal for 5 grand or less. If your thinking you can make a profit off of it, pass it by.

kind of weird, everything in the interior is trashed but the body is perfect? Was he working on it and lost itnerest? Could be a quick repaint that will fall off in a few months. Be very sure to check, a nice fresh coat of paint can cover up a lot of horror and shine you in the eyes so you miss a lot of other stuff.

Body mounts in good shape? #4 body mount is easiest to see. If #4 is deteriorated, then likely other unpleasant surprises are in store.

Thanks for your opinions. The car is a restoration in progress that the guy has lost interest in. It looks mostly like it was left out in the sun (in las vegas) so that is why the interior is so trashed. If I do anything I will look very closely at the body panels to ensure that they have not been reparired and, of course, drive it. Your opinions confirm my thoughts. Thanks!

Take a look at www.vettefinders.com

They have a link to current prices (low, mid, high) based on actual sales. Also gives you a link to actual cars for sale in each category to compare to.
