I noticed that a bit of oil is seeping out around my intake. It even bubbles up a little in one place with the engine running. Is this something I need to worry about?
New gasket time!!!!!!! Sometimes it can cause big headaches with an erratic idle, causing of a lean out condition. A lot of non necessary carb adjustments are made because of a vacuum leaks and general mess with all the vacuum operated systems.
A guy I know put a new set of valve covers on his car. His intake had small bubbles seeping from one spot. I noticed he had installed the pcv valve in one side and had a filler cap installed in the other. I told him to take the filler cap off and install a breather cap in its place. He did this and the leak stopped. Maybe your pcv system is closed up?
Around the intake - head junction or around the intake to head bolts? Leaks are quite common around the intake bolts themselves if thread sealer was not used. If intake - head junction, new intake gasket is needed.
Giving more thought to the problem, where exactly is the bubbling? Is it from the intake end seals?
The leak looks like its mainly around the bolts, but the bubbling is at the intake-head junction. Its right between the two bolts near the carburetor on the driver's side.
Or it was. I checked the tightness of the bolts, and most of the ones I checked were loose -- carb, valve cover, and intake bolts . Now the bubbling went away. There might still be some leaking though.
It definitely did something though. I was having a problem with gas in my exhaust, and that seems to have gone way down now.
Is it normal for the intake bolts to be cap-heads? It seems like a ridiculous place to put them. I couldn't fit a torque wrench in there, and even a little hex wrench could only get to half the bolts (if I disassembled a bunch of stuff, then I could have gotten to more).
