Im running a performer RPM with a 650 cfm Speed Demon carb and it just fit under my stock 79s L-48 hood, the only thing i needed to do was get a drop base air filter, id recommend that you go with a performer RPM to cut down on all the smog equipment and help free up flow to the engine. My .02
The performer RPM is a dual plane intake, and it fit fine on my car. Whoever is saying that a performer RPM is a single plane intake doesnt know what he/she is talking about.
By the way im running a performer RPM on a stock L-48 with only a wilder cam and a better carb, but otherwise the stock bottom end and heads. I think you should have NO problems running it on a 383.
