Hold on...if you've got an L-48, then you didn't have a Stingray badge in the first place. The Stingray's have an L-82, unless you get real old then you get into big block range. My 79 stingray has the L-82. I wish it was a 427, but as the old song goes "You can't always get what you want"

Mine has stingray badges. I think they stopped in '76?
What is best way (without ditching the original L-48) to get some decent every day driving power out of a stock '80 L-48? I bought a set of hooker headers/sidepipes and am looking maybe to put another $1,000 into the engine. What would my best bet be? Cam? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
You could do cam-intake-carb-dual exhaust for that $1000. Cam is not a fun job especially if you have A/C. Or, if you looked hard and did your own work you could put a Tuned-Port induction system on for less than $1000.
My car has the flags emblem as well as the "Stingray" emblem on it.
the stingray emblem must have been added on later. I don't know of any 77-79 that left St. Louis with both crossed flag and stingray fender emblems emblems.
It very well could have been added. All I know is that it IS a Stingray, I've checked the engine code and such. When I fix all the body damage and have it repainted, I'll probably just get rid of all emblems except for the "Stingray". I think it looks the best.
Did the L48 non-stingray's have the crossed flags on the side too, or was it a Stingray only thing?

I've always assumed as much, but I'm not sure where I got my info from!
My 80 L48 doesn't, but it's been resprayed before i got hold of it, so that might not mean anything...
My 80 didn't have the L48 badge... keep seeing several that you can buy but not sure why I would want to do this. With the mods...I'm moving as far away from the L48 as possible.

I had a 79 L48 that I bumped the cam up a little on (slightly longer duration but not to lumpy), pulled all the smog stuff off and installed a K&N air filter - much improved.

I'm doing a rebuild of my L-48. But, someone did a rebuild...probably not too long after it was purchased, along with a conversion from auto to manual tranny. Everything was stock except for the pistons which were bore matched. Only that, and sidepipes brought RWHP up over 200.
