Props to Tony and VBP.

Talked to Tony this afternoon to get his advice on some coil springs and a leaf spring for my mid-year. Ended up ordering the springs and some shocks and got the usual discount for Corvetteforum members.

This thread is pure greatness.

My horror story:

I bought set of calipers from Florida Caliper in 1994. After about 3 months, both rear calipers wouldn't hold pressure. The bleeder on the left side didn't have a seat in the caliper so the screw just bottomed out on the head (my mechanic at the time was a moron and screwing me too). When I bled them myself I found this problem. The right rear caliper was just pumping air really badly.

I sent them back to Florida with a copy of the receipt that read "LIFETIME WARRANTY." I got them back and was informed they were "upgraded" without my consent at a cost of $80/each. On top of that, they were sent back COD. My options were to refuse the COD and lose my calipers, or to pay the COD and just chalk it up as bad communication.

About three years later I had the same problem on a front caliper, pumping air. I dug out my receipt and called my friends at FC and, surprised, found them still in business. They said they would honor the warranty. I told them plainly on the phone I wanted WARRANTY service, not an upgrade, and expected them to pay the return freight.

Sneaky bastages pulled the same stunt. They charged me for an upgrade and sent it back COD. Shame one me for being so gullible.

If I were a vindictive person, I'd round up some friends and give ol' Carl a blanket party.

At a minimum, I have considered starting a webpage outlining all the attrocities these crooks have perpetrated. There is a special place in hell for guys like this.

Kudos for VB&P for going far out of their way to get a customer.

Not sure what is so special about the vettepartsonline calipers, anyone care to explain?

~K
Vette Brake and Muskegon have good O-ring calipers, their 'normal' calipers have a good reputation as well...

VettePartsOnline has 'restaration grade' calipers and 'caliper 2000' calipers that are of very poor quality, just like the 'brake expert' you talked to on the phone...

THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE !!!

Contact your credit card company and file a fraud report, contact the better business bureau (is this spelled correctly?) and the national fraud center....

If you pay by credit card you have a limited time period to stop payment if there's something wrong with the purchase. I forget the time period. It's 60 days or 90 days.

I've only done this once in my life, and that was only to prevent being seriously taken advantage of when the original company I purchased from was purchased by another company and they refused to agree to commitments made by the original seller. It was a $6000+ semi-custom made kitchen cabinet order from American Eagle Hardware and they were bought out by XXXX Hardware. I stopped by credit card payment for the $6000 order and XXXX didn't protest. This was after the $6000 worth of cabinets had been delivered to what had been the American Eagle Hardware store. I found out later that apparently they had a budget for losses incurred for failing to agree to American Eagle contracts! I don't know what they ever did with all of the cabinets. They won't fit anyone else's kitchen. It would have been far cheaper for XXXX to agree to the original contract terms.

Default Retribution

A word to the wise, In this 15 minute world of ours, the masses by definition are simple and slow. And in general people only understand two things, Money and violence! If you spent the one a good head slam on the desk is the next result gitter. Beware the internet, ever notice how insulated people think they are from retribution in their cars? Well the internet is a whole new form of insulation.

I too was had by Florida brake calipers, in the end they kept my not even leaking cores and the replacement ones they provide. I had shipping charges out the butt and just thought it wasn't worth the money to proceed trying to get Carl to make his product good. He told me that the outer dust sheild were not even necessary but because they were damaged I must have done it, they were right out of his box. I too contacted the Delray Beach police and got one guy to say he would pursue the complaint but I never heard another word for them. I had forgotten this experiance from ~1995 and this thread just pi$$ed me off again. I know in the long run Mr. Carl and whoever else is involved in these scams will get theirs. When its time to purchase the calipers to go back on my car they will come from Eckler's (I assume and hope VBP supplies them) as I have had a dealer accout with them for many years and have had great service, and highly recomend them.

after reading this I FEEL LIKE I GOT RIPPED OFF and I didn't even buy calipers from Florida Caliper or whatever.

I got mine from VB&P years ago and haven't had a single problem. I agree with others that it was a nice thing for them to do.

Maybe there should be a cruise in to carls place sometime with a hoard of angry vette owners?

Just deleted that link from my favorites!
A tip on buying... when I suspect a seller (mainly on ebay) might be suspect, I tell them I have a cousin that lives in their town and ask if he can pick the item up. If the seller says "no", that tells me the seller isn't legit.
Since vettepartsonline.com doesn't have their address listed on their site and won't let you pick up in person, defintiely a red flag there! Bet they change their name again after this thread!!

Default Vette Parts Online Scam

I am happy to see some one is comming across my web site: www.vettepartsonline-scam.com
I will add the information that I get from anyone that has been had by Carl.

As a side note. I recieved a letter from a lawyer claiming to represent Carl. They are concerned that I am slandering the poor man!!!!! Their problem is there is no slander in the truth, although the truth is not something Carl is familiar with.
