Just rebuilt mine. Can't tell you if it works yet 
but no special tools were required and it wasn't difficult. I bought the rebuild kit about 3 years ago (when I had money) and I think it cost around 40 dollars.

At first I went the rebuild route. Its a PITA. If your time is valuable to you get a rebuilt unit. after the rebuild, mine leaked worse than before, and balancing the unit wasnt fun.
A rebuilt unit should be factory balanced. Just install and drive.
