Default Power Steering Control Valve

Has anyone rebuilt their power steering control valve? Is this something I can do without screwing it up? Any special tools needed?

Just rebuilt mine. Can't tell you if it works yet but no special tools were required and it wasn't difficult. I bought the rebuild kit about 3 years ago (when I had money) and I think it cost around 40 dollars.

I just put one on from Van Steel, it works great, cost 80+change, and has a 5 year warranty. If you rebuild it yourself will your rebuild last 5 years? Plus their's comes pre-tested and adjusted. They do good work.

At first I went the rebuild route. Its a PITA. If your time is valuable to you get a rebuilt unit. after the rebuild, mine leaked worse than before, and balancing the unit wasnt fun.
A rebuilt unit should be factory balanced. Just install and drive.

Is the vansteel part an exact replacement i.e. same factory part number?

Dan, if you're lurking and can shed some light I would appreciate it. If your part is "plug and play" so to speak that would be real cool.

I rebuilt mine and it started leaking again in under a year. I bought a rebuilt one from Autozone and it has a lifetime warranty. If it starts leaking take it back.

Yes it's an exact replacement. Here a link so you can check it out.

Matt,

What is the spool depth?

Are you leaving the ball attached and removing the body?

Thanks
Terry
