Default steering wheel mod...

I would like to replace the steering wheel on my '82 with something that looks basically similar to the standard wheel, but a couple of inches smaller in diameter.

I've scoured the internet but can't find anything that isn't either (a) identical to the standard wheel or (b) looks like something you would use with a Sony Play Station and would take 2 days to fit!

Has anyone ever reduced the diameter of a standard wheel ? As in, peeled off the leather, cut the rim off, cut an inch off each spoke, re-profiled the rim and welded it back on?

I'd imagine that a mod like this would be a big anywhere in the civilised world but here in Saudi, I could easily get it done and no one would be the wiser . I'd just like to know if anyone's tried it and whether it's feasable and as easy to do as I've described....

If you're after a smaller diameter steering wheel, why not go for one of those really small chain link steering wheels.

Have you checked Grant?
They have some nice wheels.

I don't know if reducing the stock wheel is feasible.
Sounds like a lot of work. . .

Yeah, I've checked Grant's. They do have some nice wheels, but I'm after one that will just bolt straight onlike a standard wheel. The only ones they have like that are the same diameter!

Does anyone have their original steering wheel they no longer have a use for and would like to see go to a good home?

The only reason people want small wheels is so they can drive with hand cuffs, i say when someone goes on probation you give then the size of rim they want on the steering wheel and vise versa, thell have fun.

Put the Grant black leather one on my Corvette a long time ago. It has polished slotted spokes & a shallower dish which moves it closer to the dash. Ideal for me & a direct bolt on about 13 1/2".
